Accommodation in Manor Houses, Solares, Casas and Quintas
in
Alentejo Region of Portugal.
The Alentejo is an area of large rolling plains with wheat, olive trees and cork oaks growing.
It covers one third of Portugal but only has 10% of the population.
Some of the large farms (called Montes in this area) have now been converted for the tourist.
However the main tourist accommodation in the area are the Pousadas many of which are in the old fortifications of the hill top towns. These Pousadas are listed on another page.
The Roman towns of Evora and Elvas are favourite destinations and there are many castles and relics of stone age life near the whitewashed villages of the area.
